Using Versions

Do you work with a team on documents? Is it difficult to keep track of what changes were made to the document?

This How-To Article shows you how to use the "Versions" feature of Word to keep track of document changes.

Using Versions

Save a new version

1. Make any necessary changes to the original document.

2. Click the File menu and select "Versions...".

3. From the window that appears, click the "Save Now..." button.

4. Enter any comments you would like to make note of, and click OK.

5. Word will now save your current document as a new version.

Open a specific version

1. Click the File menu and select "Versions...".

2. Select the version you would like to open from the list.

3. Click the "Open" button.

4. Word will now open the version you selected.

Delete a version

1. Click the File menu and select "Versions...".

2. Select the version you would like to delete.

3. Click the "Delete" button.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you delete a version, you can not access it again. There is no "undo" function for deleting document versions.

4. If you are sure you would like to delete the version, click the "Yes" button from the dialog box which appears. If you would like to keep the version, click "No".
