Automatically Add Date and Time Stamps
Reader rating: 6 out of 10 Introduction Did you know that the Microsoft Windows Notepad program can help you keep a log file? Let's say that you need to keep track of phone calls you receive, along with the time and date attached to that entry. Notepad can help you do this. Automatically Add Date and Time Stamps 1. First, you need to open Notepad. To do this, click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and select "Notepad" from the menu that appears. 2. Type on the first line: .LOG 3. Now, enter an entry. 4. Save the file. 5. When you open the file, the time and date will be attached to the end of the entry. 6. Enter more entries, and save the file. Each time that you save the file, a date and time will be attached to the end of the file. Tip: Be sure to always keep the .LOG line at the top of the file. Removing it will cause Notepad not to record any more dates and times. Tip: Each time that you would like a date and time attached to the end of an entry, be sure to save it. Each time that you save the file, a new date and time will be attached to the end of the file.
