Find Out Your IP Address

Reader rating: 5 out of 10

An IP Address is used to identify your computer on a network such as the Internet. No two computers can have the same IP address, so therefore, your computer uses a special, specific IP Address on the Internet.

This How-To Article explains how to find out what your IP Address is.

Find Out Your IP Address

1. Click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and select "MS-DOS Prompt".

2. Type: "ipconfig" (without the quotes).

3. Press enter.

4. Information on your IP Address will be displayed.

5. If you type: "ipconfig /all", information on your IP Address as well as the physical equipment that connects your computer to the network will be displayed.

6. IP Addresses will sometimes change everytime that you connect to the Internet. It depends on your provider. Some providers will give you the same IP Address everytime you connect. If you are on a LAN, your network IP Address will usually always stay the same.
